He remains a vital member of the Local Station Board and proved his leadership when he took the chair temporarily at a recent, highly contentious, board meeting and brought the meeting to order. |
Hello, I’m Kahllid Al-Alim Parent member of CEJ-Coalition for Educational Justice and Chairperson of the Stakeholders Action Committee for the Park Mesa Heights Community Council asking for your support and vote in the 2009 KPFK Local Station Board Election.
I play a very active organizing role in Public Education reform and Community Development. I’m currently an LSB member due to a vacated seat and I wish to continue for a full term.
I stressed last election that my desire to be a part of the Pacifica Family was to take my experiences to the local board and help design or implement initiatives that would clearly address issues and concerns within KPFK, “our” listeners and their communities, increase outreach and give the staff at the station the resources to produce great programming with real time and up to date community news.
I envision KPFK to be the voice of the underrepresented if the Local Station Board, the Pacifica Foundation, and the community utilize communication, commitment and talent within the diversity we have. I support strong Governance and Strategic Planning, committees I would like to be apart of. I will help promote ways that will solicit funding from sources that will not compromise programming or the mission of Pacifica/KPFK.
With a Social Justice Focus, KPFK can better serve it’s listeners by promoting Culture, Literacy through accurate information and by “engaging” community participation.

Me llamo Kahllid Al-Alim y pido su apoyo y voto en la elección para la mesa directiva local de KPFK.
Participo muy activamente en la reforma de la educación pública y en el desarrollo comunitario. Soy miembro de la mesa directiva actualmente por la razón de que se desocupo un lugar y quiero servir hasta el término.
Apoyo un gobierno fuerte y un plan de estrategia fuerte a lo igual. Ayudare a promover maneras de recaudar fondos que no van a comprometer la programación o la misión de Pacifica/KPFK.
Con un énfasis en la justicia social, KPFK puede servir mejor a sus oyentes, promoviendo la cultura y el alfabetismo por medios de información correcta y una participación atractiva para la comunidad.

1. Why do you want to be on the Local Station Board?
I’m currently an LSB member due to a vacated seat and I wish to continue for a full term.

I play a very active organizing role in Public Education reform and Community Development. I have a 12 year military background in Healthcare and that has been my primary career.
2. How do you envision the Local station Board working the Pacifica Foundation, KPFK, and the community?
I envision KPFK to be the voice of the under-represented if the Local Station Board, the Pacifica Foundation and the community utilize communication, commitment and talent within the diversity we have. I support Governance and Strategic Planning.
3. How could the station better serve its listeners?
4. Describe some actions you would take to increase the influence of the station in under-represented communities and to increase the diversity of the listening audience?
5. What sources of funding, other than listener donations, do you feel KPFK should solicit?
I will help promote ways that will solicit funding from sources that will not compromise programming or the mission of Pacifica/KPFK and that could be through foundations or councils that would support the types of programs with community engagement that would be developed.
