Ruby Medrano
My Name is Ruby Medrano.
I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, I attended Griffith and Belvedere Jr. High. I attended Garfield, Roosevelt and Ramona (Not The Convent) High School. I received my AA at east Los Angeles College. I have more life experiences than formal education.
I’m a baby boomer and I have learned so much from highly talented, creative and caring friends and strangers alike. I don’t feel as old as I am, and find I can work well with all ages. I will bring my skills to increase listenership and get more listener participation.
My activism started at the time of the grape strikes with Cesar Chavez. I have stayed active helping migrant workers, the homeless, and monitoring ICE raids.
My other passion is helping animals. Please consider me when it’s time to vote.

1. Why do you want to be on the Local Station Board?
I want to know what goes on, what’s on the other side of the radio, what happens to the money?
2. How do you envision the Local station Board working the Pacifica Foundation, KPFK, and the community?
Meet with groups from different walks of life, different ages.
3. How could the station better serve its listeners?
Come to the community; have town halls on the air.
4. Describe some actions you would take to increase the influence of the station in under-represented communities and to increase the diversity of the listening audience?
I would like KPFK to air some programs from beauty salons and barber shops where the real people are.
5. What sources of funding, other than listener donations, do you feel KPFK should solicit?
I’m not sure about this one because of the laws that govern a 501(c)3.
6. Please state briefly the skills, experience, educational background, work history, organizational affiliations, areas of community service, areas of interest and expertise that you would bring to the Pacifica network as a member of the Local Station Board.

7. On which Local Station Board Committees are you interested in actively serving? If you are a current Local Station Board member, on which committees do you currently serve?
